Professor Panreceived his B.S. degree in chemistry from Tsinghua University in 2005 and his M.S. degree in inorganic chemistry from Shanghai University in 2008. He then received a Ph.D. degree in chemistry at Tsinghua University under the supervision of Prof. Yongfa Zhu in 2011. After completing his graduate studies he was awarded a JSPS postdoc fellowship in Japan and joined Prof. Kazunari Domen' s group at the University of Tokyo, then at the National Institute for Materials Science. From the year of 2015, he transferred to a new postdoc position in the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, US, where he collaborated with Prof. Ralph Nuzzo and Prof. Andrew Gewirth. He joined the School of Chemical Engineering of Jiangnan University as a faculty member in 2019.


Prof. Pan’s research interests include development of new materials, characterization methods for use in studies of advanced materials, and systems that might find utility in the solar energy conversion filed.His current research is more specifically focusing on rational design of novel 2D and sulfide materials, and the application of these materials for the artificial photosynthesis, photoelectrochemical water splitting, and photocatalytically environmental remediation. The scope of these researches will be deeply understanding the photocatalytic behavior in narrow-band-gap systems and significantly improving the present energy conversion efficiency, in order to achieve a sustainable society. Prof. Pan is specialized in solid state chemistry, heterogeneous catalysis and photoeletrochemistry.
