讲座摘要:Mechanically stretching astrip of a liquid crystal polymer (LCP) can readily induce a monodomain of uniaxially oriented mesogens; and after fixation of the monodomain by polymer chain crosslinking, the reversible order-disorder phase transition can lead to reversible contraction (in the isotropic state) and extension (in the LC phase) of the strip along the initial stretching direction. Recently, we have explored this actuation property of LCPs (and semicrystalline polymers based on a similar mechanism) by developing new materials and preparation methods for polymer actuators capable of stimuli-controlled shape change, motion or energy conversion. In this talk, I will report our recent studies aiming to address a number of issues. These include how to generate and program thermally activated, complex shape morphing through optical patterning or organization of actuation domains, how to enhance the photomechanical effect through strain energy storage to enable light-driven motions of LCP actuator for physical work and locomotion, and how to convert thermal energy onto physical work using self-sustained motion of semicrystalline polymers.

专家简介:赵越教授于1982年在原成都科技大学(现四川大学)获得学士学位,随后于1983年赴法国在巴黎工业物理化学学校(ESPCI)攻读博士学位。在1987年获得博士学位后,赴加拿大拉瓦尔大学从事博士后研究。1991年,入职加拿大舍布鲁克大学化学系,并于2000年晋升正教授。他的研究兴趣主要集中在两个方面:(1)设计和构建新型刺激响应性聚合物,探索其在刺激响应下的自组装行为和纳米结构的变化;(2)设计和构建液晶聚合物材料,探索其在智能机器人等领域的潜在的应用。以第一作者或通讯作者身份在国际知名期刊上发表文章210篇,包括Macromolecule(41),Adv. Mater.(6),Adv. Funct. Mater.(3),JACS(8),Angew. Chem. Int. Ed.(8),撰写学术著作一部。2013年获得加拿大化学会(CIC)大分子科学与工程奖,2014年当选加拿大化学会会士。
