On June 24, Zhengguo Wu, Secretary of the University Party Committee, led a delegation for a research visit to the School of Chemical and Material Engineering. Attendees included Qingwei Pan, Secretary of the School Party Committee; Ren Liu, Dean of the School; and all members of the school’s leadership team. Wei Wang, Director of the University Party Committee Office, accompanied the visit.
Ren Liu reported on the development of the school,focusing on its development approaches and key tasks in disciplinary construction, talent cultivation, logistical and infrastructure support, the management of the Yixing Campus, and industry services.He outlined the specific measures and strategic directions required to realize the school's development goals: "leaping forward in discipline and school development, upgrading the quality of scholars and academic research, and excelling in student cultivation and academic atmosphere." Qingwei Pan reported on the basic situation of the school's Party building work,emphasizing specific measures for Party building-led top-level design, team building, industry-education integration, and safety and stability of the school.
Zhengguo Wu affirmed the achievements of the School of Chemical and Material Engineering in talent cultivation, education and teaching, and scientific research in recent years. He noted that the School has a long history and strong traditions in academic atmosphere, teaching quality, and institutional culture. He emphasized the need to continuously consolidate this foundation andseize opportunities, strive for greater achievements, and contribute to national strategies. He put forward four requirements:
First, strengthen the overall leadership of the Party to promote high-quality development of the school through high-quality Party building. The School Party Committee should upholdthe requirements of the "Six Essential Strengths"–namely, charting the course, overseeing the overall situation, making scientific decisions, managing the leadership team, developing the faculty team, and ensuring effective implementation.It should consolidate and improve the Party building responsibility system of the leadership team, effectively enhancing the Party building efficiency of "Integration and Dual High-Quality Development". Following the general approach of "strengthening functions, leveraging advantages, and remedying weaknesses" for grassroots Party organizations, the school must fully implement the Party's management of ideological work, the cultivation of teacher ethics and professional conduct, as well as the work of stabilizing employment and facilitating further education for students.
Second, strengthen the connotation of disciplines and comprehensively advance the school's disciplinary level to new heights. The school must keep pace with new era development requirements such as new quality productivity. Guided by the principles of "intelligent upgrading, digital transformation, and network integration", it should fully leverage the leading and exemplary role of traditional advantageous disciplines like daily chemicals in the industry,and answer the core scientific and technological innovation question of how to revitalize traditional disciplines in the industry. The school should further strengthen organized research, andin the context of the university's "One Body, Two Wings" development layout, it shouldtake on greater responsibilities in school management, disciplinary development, talent cultivation, and the undertaking of major projects.
Third, further improve the effectiveness of fostering virtue through education and cultivating people, and deepen reforms in talent cultivation and education teaching. It is essential to deeply understand the important role of education and teaching quality in talent cultivation.Seizing the opportunity of the revision of undergraduate teaching curricula and programs, the school shouldpromote development through reform and boost motivation through scientific assessment, striving to ensure that talent cultivation quality keeps pace with social needs and contemporary development.
Fourth, ensure safety and stability, and safeguard the bottom line of career development. Laboratory safety should be regarded as the top priority of the school's work. The school mustfirmly establish the bottom-line thinking for safety that "Only when we achieve absolute safety can we prevent catastrophic losses",improve the long-term mechanism for laboratory safety management, and build a comprehensive and seamless laboratory safety accountability chain, and thus uphold a stance of persistent oversight and constant alertness in this regard.
During the meeting, other attendees also exchanged views on the cultivation of academic atmosphere, undergraduate teaching, graduate education, research management, laboratory safety, and international exchange programs.
