From July 11 to 12, 2025, the final of the "5th National Polymer Material Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition" — an event gathering innovative wisdom in the field of polymer materials — was successfully held on the Siming Campus of Xiamen University. The competition was guided by the Materials Major Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education and the Materials/Textile and Apparel Discipline Group of the National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center Joint Meeting, hosted by the Organizing Committee of the National Polymer Material Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, and organized by Xiamen University, which provided an excellent platform for participants from across the country to exchange and showcase their work.
The project titled"Study on the Preparation and Properties of Polyimide Aerogel Composite Battery Separators via Ambient Pressure Drying"(team members: Yinjing Luo, Xueting Li, Yuchan Li, Kangjie Zhou, Wei Wu; instructors: Longsheng Zhang, Tianxi Liu) from the "'Zircon' Worry-Free" team of the Polymer Nanocomposites Research Group at the School of Chemical and Material Engineering won the Gold Award. The project titled"Efficient Construction of Hierarchical Impedance/Thermal Insulation Polyimide Composites and Their Radar/Infrared Dual-Stealth Performance"(team members: Siyuan Yang, Peiyuan Zou, Chenyang Ling, Yanxiao Zhu, Xuejie Zhang; instructor: Zicheng Wang) from the "Dual-Stealth Vanguard" team won the Silver Award. The project titled"Construction and Performance Study of Bio-Based Intrinsically Flame-Retardant Polyurethane"(team members: Ning Ding, Yi Yang, Jin Wang, Guoqing Chen, Chenjing Huang; instructors: Weijun Yang, Piming Ma) from the "Non-Flammable" team of the Environmentally Friendly and Functional Composites Research Group won the Silver Award. The project titled"Preparation and Performance Study of High Bioactivity PVA/Lignin-Vitamin B Hydrogel Dressings"(team members: Yi Yang, Yu Zhang, Ning Ding, Fengyu Yang, Fengning Wang; instructors: Weijun Yang, Fei Xu) from the "Wood Renewal" team won the Bronze Award. Associate Professor Longsheng Zhang, Associate Professor Zicheng Wang, and Associate Professor Weijun Yang each received the "Outstanding Instructor" honor, and Jiangnan University was awarded the "Excellent Organization Award".
The 5th National Polymer Material Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition adhered to the theme "Materials Gather Innovation, Intelligence Leads the Future," with the core objectives of stimulating innovative awareness, enhancing creative capabilities, and cultivating entrepreneurial talent. The evaluation of entries strictly followed three principles: innovation orientation, economic rationality, and technical compliance, focusing on the project's cutting-edge innovation, market feasibility, and technical compliance. The competition aimed to stimulate the creative potential of university students, promote the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, showcase the effectiveness of innovation and entrepreneurship education in universities, strengthen exchanges and cooperation in this field, explore new models for innovation and entrepreneurship education, and ultimately achieve the educational goals of "promoting learning, fostering innovation, and enhancing teaching through competition."
Since its launch in April 2025, the competition attracted active participation from over 100 universities nationwide, with a total of 355 teams and more than 1,600 full-time undergraduate students majoring in materials and related fields registering. Following a rigorous selection process by the evaluation expert group based on established criteria, 67 projects advanced to the finals, including 56 in the technological innovation category and 11 in the technology entrepreneurship plan category. The final stage adopted an on-site defense format, where each participating team presented and defended their projects, ultimately selecting 10 Gold Awards, 20 Silver Awards, and 37 Bronze Awards.
